When Gravis Footwear, a division of Burton Snowboards, launched a new skateboarding specific line they partnered with PH to develop and execute multiple 360° campaigns for two seasons. The line was designed to be decidedly clean and minimal, PH took that approach with the visual language in all marketing efforts.
As most skate footwear brands of the time were utilizing distressed and deconstructed visual approaches, PH took Gravis Skate to an elevated, timeless brand positioning. The use of the four-hole icon and wordmark played off the four wheels and four holes from skateboards. From specific catalog season launches to team rider specific shoe launches, PH conceived themes, directed photo shoots and executed design for all touch points. The approach was highly successful and created strong market share. Gravis eventually became the Nike of Japan, and eventually moved the brand to be exclusively Japanese. PH was recognized for its catalog work by Communication Arts Magazine in the CA Design Annual 2012.

What started out as a packaging job for the PH offices turned into a four-year adventure into the men's grooming market. PH created and expanded the line from two products to 11, lead and created the go-to-market strategy, positioning and created all materials for every touch point.
What followed was a sudden growth from 11 local accounts to over 600 in 14 countries in just two years. PH served as President and Creative Director and operations for the brand during its rapid growth. So much so that PH closed offices and solely focused on the Imperial brand as it rapidly grew. After four years and building the brand to $1.4 million in sales, PH sold its controlling interest and got back to what we love: Creating brands, taking them to market, making them flourish, and then doing it all over again!

PH teamed up with the Amusement Park agency to define a new visual language for Toshiba Business Solutions North America. In the B-to-B category of business printing and technology solutions (admittedly not the sexiest of categories) there hasn't been a lot of visual innovation. Toshiba was ready to break from the pack and stand out with a fresh rebrand with the website being the initial deliverable.
The theme line, “Empowering the Art of Business,” highlights how Toshiba enables its clients to create and gain competitive business advantages seamlessly. The rebrand and visual language were rooted in artistry and modernity with clean typography, a new color palette, and minimal sculptural illustrations by Eddie Guy. Additional B-to-B print advertising, trade show elements, posters, and office environmental elements also came out of the rebrand execution.

As a prominent celebrity photographer in the mid-to-late 90’s, Andrew enjoyed substantial success. Having left the field for some time, he was struggling to rebuild his cache in the editorial and advertising world. He approached PH looking for a fresh approach to garner attention to his work and reignite his career. Instead of the mass-mailed promos most photographers do, we conceived an oversized, hard-bound, oversized coffee table book that showcased some of his best celebrity images along with copy that described his memories of that celebrity on the day of the shoot. The book was called 50 Portraits and Some Words. This limited-edition, highly-targeted, the book was mailed to leading art buyers and editors. The approach was wildly successful and created many new opportunities and eyes for Andrew's work—not to mention a few awards, including the CA Design Annual, along the way.

Daniel Root, an award-winning freelance commercial and editorial photographer based in San Francisco, CA, came to PH looking for a new positioning and strategic approach to his brand, identity, and promotional pieces. His specialty is capturing the transitional, product, and action moments in and around the world of sport and sports culture.
Taking cues from his Root’s style, PH developed the tagline “A Different View of Sport” to highlight his ability to capture sides of sports rarely seen. PH also proposed a bold, yet simple, honest and understated, new logo based on his name, DAN. This simplicity was reinforced by a utility usage of bold orange for branding. A clean, modular and easily updatable newspaper format was designed for DAN’s direct mail promotional efforts. PH took extreme measures in photo editing his large volume of work to carefully highlight the positioning of “A Different View of Sport.” Reception of his new positioning and branding was strong, leading to multiple assignments and long-term relationships from Nike, Adidas, Rebook, and other leading international sports brands.
